Fully-bedded glazing system
Modern Timber fames are often designed with fixed double-glazed units attached directly to the oak structure. This can provide a spacious light environment,with the frame visible on both sides. We can offer a number of fixed glazing options that have a proven record of weather tightness despite the tendency of the timbers to shrink and move as the wood dries out.
We have pioneered the use of fully bedded glazing direct into rebates in the oak frame. We believe this to be a more elegant and reliable method than the planted glazing method where glass is attached to the outside of the frame and cover strips are attached to the faces of the timbers.
This technique relies upon:
- The use of high quality steady oak
- Accurate high tolerance jointing
- Correct preparation of timber surfaces
- The use of low modulus silicon in a very wide bead to allow maximum flexibility
- Seasoned oak bead secured with stainless fixings
