CASE STUDIES

Giving a Cotswolds home the wow factor with a double-storey oak framed extension

The client

We were commissioned to design and install a luxury oak framed extension at a traditional dry-stone wall property in the Cotswolds.

Our client wanted the timber frame structure to not just be an impressive focal point, but seamlessly blend in with the design of the rest of their home. It also needed to be double storey and make maximum use of the natural daylight, making the timber frame structure even more of a standout feature.

The solution

We delivered a full oak frame package that fully met our client’s requirements, transforming their vision for a grand statement front entrance into reality.

Working closely with our trusted carpentry and building partner, Leafbuild, who share the same attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship as we do, we managed every single element of the project.

Bespoke timber structure

Our work started with conducting a detailed site survey and making sure we took the time to sit down with our client and fully understand their needs.

Taking all of the insight gathered during the initial three hour survey, we then set to work on designing a bespoke timber structure that was tailored to the overall structural and aesthetic requirements. (For more about our design process, read: https://oakframecarpentry.co.uk/about/the-process).

Once the designs had been approved by our client, we carefully crafted and pre-assembled all of the components, including three structural timber trusses and four roof purlins, at our Cotswolds workshop.

Minimal disruption

The 6.5m high x 3.5m wide the timber frame structure was transported to our client’s home where it was installed efficiently and with minimal disruption.

The result

As you will see from the pictures, the end result is truly stunning – the completed oak framed extension has single-handedly transformed our client’s home.

The oak trusses combined with the oak posts and beams work in harmony with the existing stonework, adding an understated touch of luxury and amplifying the property’s overall kerb appeal.

From workshop to wow factor within four weeks

From a practical perspective, we delivered this project within the required budget and in just four weeks.

“Everything ran smoothly from start to finish,” explains our Manager, Lee Smyth.

“The completed timber frame structure has created a striking, light-filled focal point that greets our client the moment they pull up on their drive and then step through their front door. They’re delighted with the result, which combines craftsmanship, structural integrity and timeless design.”
