The process.

Once the design is approved, timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests in France and delivered to our workshop in Gloucestershire. Our master craftsmen then bring the construction drawings to life. By combining ancient techniques with modern technology, we strike the ideal balance between efficiency and traditional craftsmanship. The frame is drawn to full scale on the workshop floor using chalk lines and timbers laid accurately in position, a process known as ‘lofting’. Each joint is then scribed with a plumb bob and awl, a method that has remained unchanged for centuries—after all, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it! Once the elements are scribed, they are carefully stacked and prepared for transport to the site. Our team of skilled carpenters then assembles the frame on-site, like a giant 3D timber puzzle, bringing the project to life before your eyes.
